The empowerment approach is effective in assisting both groups and individuals to get mastery of their lives. Social workers use the empowerment approach to simulate a client’s strengths and the strengths of his/her environment. Empowerment helps clients to achieve their objectives and to lead quality lives by controlling their circumstances. Social workers reduce powerlessness in clients through empowerment (Marlow, 2010). LeBron James is a single father of two kids who has not heard from their mother for a year. He earns a living by working as a security guard. LeBron is very depressed, and he has indulged into alcoholism. His physical and mental health has deteriorated. Besides, he does not have a health insurance cover, so he risks the possibility of sickness or accidents. I chose to work on this client case so to explain how the client can get out of the problem of depression and alcoholism. The relevant aspects of a biopsychosocial assessment applicable in this case include thoughts, behaviors, emotions, and culture, social-environmental, social economic. The biopsychosocial aspects combine social, biological and psychological factors that affect the client. The crisis concept minimizes the effect of crises and ensures that the client goes back to normal psychosocial functioning (Lee, 2013). Behavior modification theory offers extensive behavior resources that help social workers in achieving specified changes in their clients. The theory helps clients to adjust specific behaviors without understanding the origins of the behaviors.
