Now in 2016 we use more fuel than ever with over 1.2 billion vehicles on the road burning up our gas. The cars, while they do use the most fuel out of everything else there are other things that use fuel. Fossil Fuels also power our home, indirectly; generators burn these fuels to create electricity. These system are very rare because you have to have very specific circumstances in order for this to happen. While these systems are not very common they are starting to appear more frequently, an article was written about this in which they said the industry is currently enjoying something of a boom. “In 1998, the first CHP plant running on CMM from a closed-down mine was commissioned” (Sporer 2). Before 1998 some systems were used to power and heat the mines but never to produce electricity for use on the public grid. These systems were built to help stop pollution and to produce electricity, the mine methane has the same effect on our atmosphere as carbon dioxide, destroys the ozone layer. This system, while not found in the U.S. is still helping to lead the way to producing an effective alternative power
