Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) The discovery of the five different types of disorders of Autism have increased rapidly in the last few years. They are Autism, Asperger Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Childhood disintegrative disorder, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS). (Baio) Unfortunately, all of these disorders and none with a cure. Autism is not a kind of disease you can contract from someone, or something physically. ASD is a disorder in children, toddlers, and/or even adults. Usually prefered to be found in children. Doctors can look at the child’s behavior and development to make a diagnosis.(Facts) A diagnosis of ASD however includes several conditions that used to be diagnosed separately: Autistic disorder, PDD-NOS, and Asperger Syndrome. These conditions are now all called Autism Spectrum Disorder.(Facts) Yes, in children it is common and easier to diagnose, but you can find it in adults at a late age. In adults, some ASD symptoms can overlap with symptoms of other mental health disorders, such as Schizophrenia or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).(Autism) There is no way you can decline a child or adult form getting Autism, or any kind of Autism. These disorders, I don 't want to say just appeared, but that is kind of what it feels like. There is no way to see or test how you or your child became Autistic. It is something they might have just developed over the years as a child. Doctors don 't really understand, or know how people become Autistic, but most scientists believe that genes are one of the risk factors that can make a person more likely to develop ASD.
