As Mahatma Gandhi said “The enemy is the fear. We think it is hate; but, it is fear.” During Night, the novel written by Elie Wiesel, the main character, who was Elie himself, he was scared and afraid, dealing with tons of scared Jews like him. In the novel, Jews became a worse people and selfish, because they were afraid of losing their lives and they wanted to survive. Fear makes people evil. Through the novel showed up three different types of fear that make people evil; first, during the travel in the train; then, when a son killed his own father; and finally; the fear of the nazis.

During the death march Rabbi’s son left around his own father in the snow just to survive. "Oh God, Master of the Universe, give me the strength never to do what Rabbi Eliahu's son has done" (Wiesel e91). In the quote Elie is talking about what the son of Eliahu did and he doesn’t want to do the same to his father, here the readers can see how the boy let his father die just to survive and that Elie wanted to have the courage to never do that, so in this case the fear made Rabbi Eliahu's son evil. Actually, many of the nazi soldiers were afraid of the nazi’s power but most of the afraid nazis became evil to save their lives as well. “And yet I was still thousands of miles away from imagining that these children were destined to feed the gas chambers and crematoria” (Wiesel e21). Here people can see through Elie’s thoughts that nazis were evil and killed many people because they were afraid to receive the same punishment from other nazis. Even though all nazis looked evil some of them actually saved Jews like Karl Plagge did, breaking their fears and going against their own party. “Plagge also aided the survival of the Jews under his jurisdiction by providing warm clothing, medical supplies, and firewood” ("Karl Plagge - the Nazi Party Member Who Employed and Protected 1240 Jews."). With this example people can realize that there were few nazis who helped Jews, and some of the nazis who didn’t help them was because they were scared to die like Jews did. So, besides Jewish people, who became evil because of their fear to nazis,also, some of the nazis were evil because of their fear.
