The article, “Theme Parks and Your Privacy”, has examples of our freedoms being restricted and why they should not be. In this quote from the article one will understand what theme parks in Florida, including Walt Disney World are starting, “Disney began a new biometric system to identify users of annual and seasonal passes abandoning the use of a barcoded laminated photo ID pass.” This means that Disney is now telling all guest that to enter the parks you need to use your fingerprints to get in. Theme parks in this way are restricting freedoms, and should not be. Everyone should have the freedom to enter a theme park and not have to worry about their personal information being misused. The following quote explains a reason why guest are upset about this change, “Customers were not provided with information on how long the fingerprint information would be retained, nor whether the information collected would be used for other purposes other than the control of admission to the theme park.” This piece of information is important because, it gives one a better understanding about the guest not being fully aware of what is happening. The article, “Theme parks ramp up security: What to know before you go”, gives examples on how they are being proactive. The following statement is an example of what is being done for the guest safety, “Disney announced that it will be discontinuing the sale of toy guns, including toy blasters and squirt guns throughout Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World.” By banning toy guns Disney is showing that they do not want any problems to occur with gun violence in their parks. Another thing theme parks in Florida are doing for safety precautions is shown in the following statement, “Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and SeaWorld installed metal detectors at all park entrances.” The theme parks are doing everything in their power to help their parks be safe. In these situations the leader of the companies are restricting some freedoms, but it is for safety reasons. Another way they are protecting their guest is shown by the following statement, “Disney says that guests over 14 will not be permitted to wear costumes inside the park. The effort will allow security personnel to more effectively screen guests as they enter.” The reason they are doing this is so that the guest do not have to be alarmed by the adults dressing up and hiding weapons in their costumes.
