Nick Caraway has a high opinion of Jay Gatsby because Gatsby acts a certain way. Jay is not seen or heard of and Nick hardly sees him. Nick in the beginning doesn't know much about Jay . But Jay seems to treat Nick kindly and as if they had known each other for a long time. This seems to be suspicious and rare, but all Nick seems to do is think of Jay Gatsby as a god. Then Gatsby goes to war , not knowing he would leave his poor life behind. Furthermore, he also leaves the love of his life, Daisy. When Gatsby comes back from war , everything changes for him.
