Animal Farm is a satirical allegory that clearly establishes that individuals will undoubtedly become corrupt when brought into power, and manipulate the less educated. This can be paralleled to the infamous German leader Adolf Hitler. Although Napoleon succeeded in completing an extremely successful first harvest, he soon proves himself to be a manipulative ruler. The actions of the pigs throughout the novel make it evident that their intentions have been changed for the worse. For example, when the pigs move into Mr. Jones’ farmhouse and begin to sleep in bed, Muriel announces that the 4th commandment now reads“No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets” (Orwell 48).
