An Ecosystem is a complex community of organisms and environment functioning as an ecological unit. The Amazon is a perfect example of this definition. Located in the tropics where the sun light is striking the earth at around a 90 degree angle, the Amazon receives massive amounts of solar energy. Thanks to this solar energy, the amount and variety …show more content…
Humans are the only species of animal that can deliberately cause so much destruction and simultaneously be aware of the detrimental effects of their actions. Whether it be through over consumption of resources that increases demand for renewable resources at a faster pace than nature can resupply the resource or simple wasteful practices. The battle the Amazon faces is a daily struggle for survival. Farmers attempt to keep up with demand for cattle by burning and clearing large swaths of Amazon jungle, mining for non-renewable resource clear even more land, and logging are all unfavorable to the conservation of the Amazonian Rainforest. Attempting to stop the flood of destruction starts with three seemly easy steps. The mantra of “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” is an excellent start to keep the Amazon intact. Reducing the amount of resources in a population is quite possibly the easiest of the three. Simply taking steps such as buying in bulk when buying products, reverting to email versus traditional paper mail, and using cloth versus paper towels or napkins can all help in the long run. Reusing resources is easily done with a bit of creativity. Repurposing products such as “disposable” cutlery, which is made of heavy plastic and can be reused many times. Not to mention just the simple act of donating unwanted items to charity versus throwing away. Even using plastic containers as storage containers instead of throwing them out is a great way of reusing a product. Recycling is sometime less obvious in some areas of the first world. It seems childish to say that “it’s difficult” to recycle considering the privileges we in the first world are accustom, but sometime and for some people it’s not an option. Some less privileged families can’t afford an extra bill on top of a service like trash pickup. In some areas all trash pickup is for a fee versus provided by a city and this
