How would you feel going into surgery with a nervous, inexperienced surgeon who is fresh out of college? Nervous, I’m sure. You can calm your nerves now because thanks to healthcare simulators, they’re allowing medical students to work on a human-like replicas while learning. Many medical colleges are now using healthcare simulators to teach their students. Healthcare simulators are computerized human models that do actual responses and states of diseases (Marken). Also, students have the opportunity to communicate with simulator as if it were a real patient and become sufficient in advanced areas of practice (Marken). Healthcare simulators are helping students in many ways. They allow students to become more comfortable in tough situations. “90% of students stated that when compared to to lectures, they learned clinical patient care better, and 98% also found the course useful for their practice.” (Marken) Additionally, students prefer learning with the healthcare simulators than with lectures and are more advanced because they are learning with the healthcare simulators. “Health …show more content…
For starters, students didn’t have a lot of experience when they operated on a real person. Also, students didn’t get enough time practicing on real people when they did surgery due to the lack of experience and confidence. Usually, when given the opportunity to operate on real person in surgery, they never got to operate longer than a minute. However, because of healthcare simulators, students can now operate for longer periods of time without a professional having to step in so the person doesn’t get hurt (Newsela). Furthermore, students can operate on real people longer because they are more confident and know how to operate on a real person better (Newsela).
