Peasants did not have much of a variety in their food. They often ate bread or stews. The stews consisted of different root vegetables and were flavored with little meat or bones. Root vegetables were said to be ground vegetables and they were only considered fit for the poor. Only vegetables such as onions, turnips, and leeks were placed on Noble’s table. Fresh and dried vegetables were available to all classes. Fruit availability depended on the season, weather, and importation. Locally grown fruits were berries, apples, and oranges. The Nobles often ate fruits cooked into pies while peasants just ate raw fruits. Due to lack of nutritional intelligence, Nobles lacked Vitamin C and fiber. This led to various health problems including bad teeth, skin diseases, scurvy, and rickets.
