College students with the daily habit of drinking coffee cross all demographic lines. The daily consumption of coffee turns beautiful smiles into stained smiles. Recently, research conducted on coffee users found that the enamel of the coffee drinker is the hardest substance on the human body and it is not flat or smooth (Bazzi 1). To some people who do not go to the dentist unless of emergencies, but also do not enjoy yellow teeth this will be beneficial to acknowledge “coffee and white teeth don’t always mix well, and finding out why and what you can do are good steps in promoting your dental health” (Noble Smile). Research has shown that tooth enamel contains microscopic pits and ridges that can hold particles of food and drink. These particles …show more content…
In the same study, it was found that as enamel wears off, the teeth are more susceptible to damage and disease. “Large consumption of caffeine is related to the degradation of the enamel on your teeth” (Ipanenco). The enamel of human teeth will begin to wear off as humans continue to drink coffee without worrying about their oral hygiene. As the enamel begins to wear off, their teeth will begin to get rough and bumpy. This study also examined other health risks to human teeth from coffee drinking. It placed those claims against the large majority of dental industry studies, which emphasized the negative effects.
Some coffee beans have shown to have an opposite effect on teeth, such as green coffee bean extract. Green coffee bean extract helps kill bacteria in the digestive tract. Drinking black coffee without cream and sugar will not cause as much tooth decay and will benefit human’s oral health. Although there are a few advantages to drinking coffee, there are more disadvantages. Some coffee labels may be incorrect just to get you to drink their coffee brand. Adding more cream to your coffee does not keep your teeth from being stained just because it does not contain the pigments and acids that are present in coffee. What does carry weight is brushing your teeth immediately after drinking coffee because it can help remove most of the harmful substances that reside in coffee. Noble Smiles also mentions “For the hardcore caffeine aficionado this solution isn’t always the easiest, but limiting your intake directly cuts down on the exposure of the substance to your teeth, deterring any of its negative effects”.
