Same sex marriage effects on children
Marriage is the state of uniting pure bond between man and woman as husband and wife religiously and legally. Same-sex marriage is the union between the same genders of a person. Same-sex marriage has slowly become a vital factor in today’s society. Marriages have always been valued as a religious belief and legal commitment between two different genders. Hence, same sex marriages should not be legalized. Though, it is a civil right of a people to marry whoever they want and violating the civil rights of an individual would cause discrimination, same sex marriages could affect families and especially children. She explains that for a child to fully developed, a two parent, Mother and Father is ideal. She claims that, “Only mother-father families afford children the opportunity to develop relationships with a parent of the same, as well as the opposite sex” (2012). Mrs. Hansen in reference to the position of against same sex marriage, says that children under the same sex parenthood are more likely to engage themselves in homosexual’s behavior as same sex marriage will only increase sexual confusion. Furthermore, she states that, “Certainly homosexual couples can be just as loving toward children as heterosexual couples, but children need more than love. They require the distinctive qualities and complementary natures of a male and female parent” (2012). Here, she is trying to convey that children need more than a love. It explains, “In a survey of 2,988 adults aged 18-39, those raised by lesbian mothers had negative outcomes in 24 of 40 categories when compared to children of married heterosexual couples” (June, 2012). To explain more, even though marriage has been part of the natural law for centuries, its meaning has since been redefined to better suit the changing society. If the meaning of marriage has been changed what else will be changed? Legal parenting forms, a legal spokesperson for the court confirmed that the words “Mother” and “Father” have been replaced with terms such as “Parent 1” and “Parent 2.” So that children will not feel discriminated. However, if we look at the deep roots, it is like taking away the rights of dual sex couples. Why does it have to replace mother and father with parent 1 and parent 2 when the word mother and father has been going on since
