When Ethanol is burned some of its matter is changed to carbon dioxide and water vapor. The proof is shown by the color change the BTB went through. The BTB went from a blue color to a yellowish green …show more content…
Another thing that went well was that all of the groups got their data on time and followed the directions correctly. One thing we could improve is to reduce scale errors we can check the scales before use, and measure our data multiple times each. Another thing we can do to improve the lab is to measure out the liquid more accurately; the sources of error in our data was most likely caused by differences in the amount of BTB and Ethanol so measuring out these amounts can greatly reduce error. One source of error in the lab was the scales used. The scales are not always accurate, it could be the scales not calibrated or it could be low on battery which can cause large errors in data. On other source of error in the lab was the time the BTB and ethanol were in the container. We used our phones as a timer for the experiment but some groups may have set the timer too late or early, a timer set too late will cause the ethanol to burn for too long which will cause it to loss mass. Another source of error in our lab was the amount of liquid in the containers. If there is too much or too little liquid our measurement will greatly vary. Combustion is a process the relates greatly to what happens in our body. When we consume food it is eventually combined with oxygen to release the energy we need to continue our basic functions. It is important to learn about combustion as it can help us understand more in depth and hard to understand concepts as we go through
