My idea for the Macbeth interpretation was Roman Era Macbeth, a world where emperors where power hungry rulers and the people around them suffered from it. It was a time where money and power lead people to their misery and desolation. The cinematic look and feel is very self-explanatory, since the Roman Empire had its specific look. The costume design will consist of togas, crowns, jewelry and strap on shoes. This look will mostly be for the ones in higher power compared to the lower class. A film that is very similar to my interpretation is Spartacus by Stanley Kubrick. Most of those shot of very well lit with a hefty amount of orange gels that make the scene have a very rigid Mad Max feel. One scene in particular that comes to mind when lighting a scene in the Roman Era Macbeth is the scene where Lucius kills his father in his chambers. The scene will start with an establishing shot of the Kings room to represent how wealthy of a man he is. We close up to his father sleeping in his bed, and then we cut to a low angle shot of Lucius staring down at the king. When we analyze that shot we understand that we are looking up at Lucius look down into at his father portraying a huge role reversal in ranking. The reason why we didn’t have a shot of the camera following Lucius into the room instead, is because I wanted to make it feel as if Lucius has been staring at his father for a very long time given off the crazy, insane emotion that is bursting inside him. We end the shot still looking up at Lucius as if we were the king, then at the very end Lucius starts to viscously stab the king to death with a dagger all while we are looking up at him doing
