Going to college can be very hard and challenging for some students such as myself. I remember the first time I entered Folsom Lake College to take my assessment test for Math and English, I was very confused and lost. At that time, I wasn’t driving and my brother took me and he told me that he was going to wait for me in the parking lot. When I finished my test, I tried to go back where my brother parked his car but I got lost. The campus seemed very big to me at that time. Another thing that was new to me that day while I was waiting to take my test, was the fact that there were students of all ages. After all that experience I had that day just made me have a bad view of college before even attending any classes since I was not used to that environment. By reading the article "I Am Not a Writer, I Am a Good Writer" by Joe Quartone, I learned that he also had similar feelings when going to collegein his writing class. He states that," I always had this kind of defensive attitude about college writing"(Quartone 237). Sometimes before entering the discourse community we can have a negative view of it, but after a while, we tend to adapt to that environment and starts to become less different than what we were used to
