Differences Between Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief

The classic greek mythology tale of Perseus has been revived and retold over and over. One of the newest being a modern version of the tale, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. While both of these stories share a similar main character and similar plot, they have quite a few differences. These differences include characters, events, and hero archetypes. The story has truly been rewritten in a new way and tells the story in a more relatable fashion for today’s youth. Percy struggles with ADHD and Dyslexia, that we soon learn is just part of his DNA. This sets the foundation for the story letting most children be able to relate to Percy.

For the first paragraph, we have events. One piece that makes the movie different from the tale, is the different events. Percy goes on three quests to complete the main goal, while Perseus only goes on one, with a goal someone else has set. ¨Slay the monster Medusa and bring me her head.¨ (D'Aulaire 116). Perseus also had a different purpose of going on the quest. Percy wanted to save his mother from Hades (Columbus Percy Jackson), while Perseus wanted to save his mother from the king and rid the world of a horrible monster. While Percy was created based on Perseus, he was given a difference personality. Percy has a complicated hero archetype. He goes from being the Everyman to the Perfect Hero. He first joins the quest to save his mother and for no other reason (Columbus Percy Jackson). And over the course of the movie, he realises the weight of the situation and knows that this problem is beyond him or his mother (Columbus Percy Jackson). Perseus is the Prophet. He is the son of Zeus and is destined to kill the unkillable beast and protect his mother (D'Aulaire
