From the beginning of the novel, Precious speaks about her negative personal view of herself, “I know who I am. I know who they say I am- vampire sucking the system’s blood. Ugly black grease to be wipe away, punish, kilt, changed, finded a job for.” (pg. 30) The literary technique of perspective is used to show how Precious not only views herself, but how she believes others view her.
