The reader losses account of what happened before they got arrested. Silberbauer enters and starts to go through everything with the other officers. They reach a map which makes Silberbauer mad and sad at the same time. When Silberbauer, incredulous, shakes his head, Otto Frank points to the wall on his right: “Silberbauer’s eyes come to rest on a small map of Normandy tacked to the wall beside the pencil marks. On the map Otto has kept track of the allied advance. He has used pins with the red orange and blue head from Edith’s sewing basket to mark allied victories Silberbauer struggles with himself then he says in a choked voice take your time. Is he about to lose self-control? Has something here touched him?”(Müller 10). In Goodrich and Hackett’s play, they didn't talk about how are the SS officer went through Mr. Franks stuff and found the map. The map made the reader lose information on why it was taken and not hidden like Anne's diary. It also made him very emotional, because he found out Mr. Frank is a higher ranking than him and he should be listening to Otto, so he had to stick with be the main officer, which the reader lose all of that information on how Mr. Frank was the highest rank and how that affected Silberbauer. The reader is affected by why the reader lost information on the arrest scene. The reader loses more information before the actual arrest scene. In the play, everyone hears the SS officer banging and kicking the door for them to open up. The stage directions reveal to the reader that “The street door below is forced open. We hear heavy tread of footsteps coming up. Mr. Frank gets two school bags from the shelves and gives want to Anne and the other to Margot.
