One of the most prominent issues I have been made aware of is the amount of animals in our community that do not have loving homes. We have a multitude of animal shelters, humane societies, and pounds, all of which are always close to being full. It is so important that people consider these poor animals, and their unfortunate circumstances while looking for ways to help the community. Whether it is volunteering to be a foster home, adopting a pet, or simply volunteering your time to play with them, there are a multitude of ways to make an impact with these animals. The community members who work with these shelters have a tremendous job trying to care for all of the animals that enter through their doors. Any help that they can receive is surely appreciated by both the workers, and the animals. Furthermore, another issue that I have noticed almost daily, is the amount of pollution throughout our community. First and foremost, I have learned that volunteering, community service and service-learning, are all differing things. Volunteering is simply the act of freely giving your time to a cause. Community service is volunteering within a particular area, such as your hometown, or college campus. Last but not least, service-learning is the incorporation of community service and education. Not only are you making a difference, you are also gaining useful knowledge to farther you in your studies, as well as life. Although they may have different definitions, their main objective is the same: giving back to the community around you, and being a part of something bigger than yourself. Throughout the semester, I have noted that it is important to take a part in all three of these things to help contribute towards a stronger, more connected,
