The code of civility is the code based on the law, courtesy, and politeness. Middle- class people, upper-class people, and educated people tend to follow the code of civility. In poorer neighborhoods, decent parents teach their children both the code of civility and the code of the street. The children then learn to code switch between the code of civility and the code of the street. The code of the street, on the other hand, is regulated by the threat of violence. Poorer and uneducated families tend to be more inclined towards the code of the street.
