The most damaging form of bullying is cyberbullying, “Cyberbullying is the act of using technologies such as emails, cell phones, or text messaging with the intent of causing harm to others” (Chibbaro, 2007). As the internet becomes more abundant in households, the risk of being cyberbullied rises drastically. This “In most cases, cyber bullies know their targets, but their victims do not know the identities of the cyberbullies” (Webwise, 2014). This can cause great grief in a child’s life. During traditional bullying, the bully and the victim must be in contact with one another, this is not the case with cyberbullying. A cyberbully can reach their victim within the farthest reaches of the planet. “When young people come home from school and shut their front door, they are still available to become victims of cyberbullying, via text messages, internet chat rooms and an indefinable myriad of constantly evolving social media platforms” (Webwise, 2014). “Symptoms may include, increased feelings of sadness and loneliness, changes in sleep and eating patterns, loss of interest in activities, more health complaints” (Civility). When children are cyberbullied, they disconnect from other people; thinking that it would stop the pain. But, when they do this, they hurt themselves further. “Students who are cyberbullied are more likely to feel disconnected from people, have low academic outcomes, lack quality friendships, and be less accepted by peers” (Stoppers). Cyberbullying not only affects the victim, it also affects people around them. “Students who witness cyberbullying may be reluctant to attend school, feel fearful and powerless, have increased mental health problems, and have increased use of tobacco and other drugs”
