After completing both of those items I have a much better understanding of how an organization has to have a solid management structure. Having poor organization design and structure can lead to contradictions and confusion. Some of the issues that can arise with poor organization design and structure are confused within roles, a lack of co-ordination among functions, failure to share ideas, and slow decision-making which can bring mangers unnecessary stress and conflict (Corkindale, 2011). The concept of organization design a structure I understood, but when it came to putting it all together with our human service organization, that is when I realized there was a lot more to it. Looking at how many different human service program there are out there it was a little overwhelming to think that I had to set up a program that was going to look like one of them. My thought was originally I was going to design a program that would be a general human service program that would be available to anyone that needed it. After looking at how big of a program that would be, I decided to scale it back some and focus on a program that I feel strongly about. Having dealt with foster care and the department of human services when I was growing up and with my stepdaughter, my heart went back to a program that would help children and families. The part that surprised me the most is that there are so many steps to set up a successful adoption and consultation agency. I learned so much just through the interviews in the first three weeks of the course about how there are different agency that do different things when it comes to adoption.
