Act III Scene 2 (brutus funeral speech) This particular scene of the play “ Brutus “ by Julius Caesar took place at the main character “Caesar’s” funeral, where Brutus is trying to explain to the Romans why killing his own best friend out of the love for his country was the right thing to do. Brutus not only believed that what he has done was right for the country but he also had to persuade the Romans that he was only trying to save the country from becoming a complete disaster. To persuade the Romans of the country Brutus uses ethos to try and show that they are able to trust him with him giving Caesars his credibility. In the scene Brutus said “I honored him but: but, as he was ambitious, I slew him. There is tears for his love” he spoke on how ambitions Caesar was to get the Romans to feel the love that Brutus has for him, so that they would have sympathy for him. Not only did Brutus sell them how ambitious Caesar was but he also said “...believe me for mine honour, and have respect to mine honour, that you may believe…” Meaning that he honours Caesar for the things he’s done and the way he was. …show more content…
He wanted everyone to agree on what he’s done was only to save the country. Brutus uses a very sarcastic/upset tone when he starts speaking on the the reasons of Caesar purpose. In the scene it says “Had you rather Caesar were living and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to live all free man? He is trying to say that if Caesar were to live he will enslave everyone for life with the power he has, but if he went ahead and killed Caesar everyone would be able to live free to do whatever. It makes the Romans think that what he has done was only right because they didn’t want to be slaves for him. He felt like he was being the hero and saving the other Romans and needs them to
