Through further exposure with competitions and classes over the past two years, I have developed a growing attachment to virology, specifically the functioning of malaria parasites and their treatments, and hope to collaborate and conduct research with others in the field. Unfortunately, my age, as well as my limited experience with laboratory techniques and research aspects of biology, have continually been limiting factors at all laboratories in the region. As one of the only viable opportunities, the experience of spending time and experimenting in a laboratory with the Biomedical Research Academy would serve as an especially practical introduction to the field of research and for mentored programs in the future.
Studying the mechanisms and anatomy of the human body has always been for me the most intriguing subjects of biology. Ergo, beyond high school, I can envision myself pursuing a dual research pathway in medicine, perhaps expanding on my mother’s footsteps in pathology and embarking on a study of disease. Wherefore, along with volunteering at my local hospital this summer, an experience I eagerly await, the Penn Summer High School program will satisfy me a well-rounded overview of the healthcare field from both the clinical and research
