Although research shows only 10% of the population favors the left hand over the right hand, southpaw tennis players often pull out a win making “seven of the first 17 champions in the [Wimbledon] Open era… left-handed…” (Liew). Jonathon Liew, a sports enthusiast for The Telegraph, later explains that there are many advantages for left-handed tennis players ranging from how the ball spins to different swinging techniques. Lefties have defended their reputation by outplaying others and winning major titles. According to the 2017 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Men’s Tennis Rankings, the top 100 players consist of 16 lefties, a large number considering the meager pickings of lefties in the world (ESPN). Lefties are able outplay their opponent due to the use of different speeds and difficult court placements that do not come easily to righties. Also, they have the advantage of surprise because of the lack of time righties spend on practicing a lefties game. These mental and physical flexibilities allow them to flourish. Left-handers possess tiny quirks that are a blessing in disguise when it is time to pay for post secondary education and when you need to pass your drivers test. The quality of left-handedness gives you beneficial traits that can make you stand out. Left-handers have surprising qualities, but right-handers can be prepared of their superiority with the right education. The “right minded” people are making humanity better one hand at a time.
