On page 63, Gatsby offers Nick the use of his swimming pool. On page 64, Gatsby offers Nick a job to make more money than he already does. This day is extremely important to Gatsby,and in his mind, nothing must go wrong. On page 68, it seems like what Gatsby has feared turned into a reality. The moment at first is incredibly awkward. Daisy and Gatsby are interacting robotically. No one really knows how to lighten up the mood. Gatsby rushed into a moment without considering how things might have changed in five years. However, the mood doesn’t stay that way. On page 69, Daisy is crying tears of joy,and Gatsby invites her,and Nick to his house. The mood has become cheery with Daisy marveling over Gatsby’s possessions. On page 72, Daisy cries over Gatsby’s beautiful shirts. This is what Gatsby’s wealth has gotten him. A girl who cries over shirts. For Gatsby, none of that matters. Right now the moment is perfect. After five long years, he has finally reunited with Daisy. He has also stopped throwing big party,and he’s doing it all for Daisy. He doesn’t need to throw any more parties because he has her attention. He doesn’t want the rumors to ruin his reputation in the eyes of Daisy so he eliminates any chance of that happening. On page 90, Gatsby learns about the baby between Daisy and Tom. Gatsby looked like he never thought the child existed. In Gatsby’s mind, there was no way Daisy could have had a baby. Gatsby can’t have his dream fully realized without harming the baby. Tom and Gatsby interact passive aggressively until Daisy desperately suggests they go to town. Tom was barely keeping calm against the blazing heat and tension in the room, but he went along to town with them. The way they went to town disrespected both men. Tom drove Gatsby’s prized car and Gatsby drove in Tom’s with Daisy. They arrive at a little suite and the mood doesn’t improve. On page 99, Tom finally brings up the question that has been boiling this entire scorching day. What is Gatsby doing with his wife. On page 100, Gatsby gives the man an answer. In Gatsby’s world, Daisy never loved Nick but married him because he was poor at that time. Gatsby goes to Daisy in page 101, and tells her to tell Tom that she never loved him. Yet in page 102, she couldn’t do it. A part of her did love Tom and she tells Gatsby that even alone she couldn’t say she didn’t love him.
