History in the United States has some good endings like the independence of 1776, but with the good part there is a dark part of history. Slavery started in America in 1619, which African Americans were forced to work hard labor all day and this went on for more than 200 years, until it came to an end when the Civil War broke out in 1861. It ended in 1865 and it abolished slavery, but it was never easy for African Americans even after slavery abolishment, in the 1880’s Jim Crow laws were enforced which kept whites and colored people apart, a practice called segregation which lasted until the 1960’s. Affirmative action is no longer necessary because it acts as reverse discrimination, puts race in consideration when hiring, and it reinforces stereotypes. …show more content…
First of all, Affirmative action was designed in Executive Order 10925 signed on March 6th 1961 by President John F. Kennedy. This was to stop unfair treatment and discrimination by their color, skin, where you’re from and more physical things, however this did the complete opposite. This means turning hard working white people just because of their skin color. Meritocracy, which is educational ruling on educated or skilled people, affirmative has destroyed that idea and now some schools and business put race into consideration during admission
