Throughout the play Abigail Williams, who is portrayed by Winona Ryder is one of the main characters related to fear. Abigail is first introduced to fear at the start of the play.

For example, when Abigail is threating the girls the camera angle is pointing up at her and when the shot shows the girls the camera was pointing down showing the hold that Abigail had over the girls.

Being so involved with fear Abigail is very good at placing people in trouble. For example, when Abigail accused Tituba of associating with the devil everyone believed her because of the way she was acting and the way she used hysteria.
The acting by Winona Ryder throughout the film is astounding, this can be shown through her facial expression and body movements while she was acting. The scene show Abigail and Proctor face at the same level, showing that she does not have a hold over Proctor with fear.

The fear that you may lose a child is one fear that no parent wants to feel. Reverend Parris, who is played by Bruce Davison is a parent that does experience this, however his reaction is not the same as you would expect. The main thing that he is worried about what might happen to his reputation in the community if they find out that his daughter Betty is accused of being a witch.
‘Thomas, Thomas, I pry you, leap not to witchcraft. I know that you… would never wish such a disastrous charge laid upon me… they will howl me out of Salem of such corruption in my house.’ (Act 1, pg.15)
For Reverend Parris being corrupt is not on his bucket list of thing to do, so he calls Reverend Hale to prove that he was still fit to carry out his duties in Salem. He is so petrified of being kicked out of his job he barley worries about his
