Farandolae are beings which were predicted by Mrs. Murry to live in Mitochondria, and the Echthroi are revealed to be targeting Charles’ in order to slowly kill him. Sporos is assigned to be Calvin’s partner and shows immediate disdain and immaturity. As a group, they move from Metron Ariston into the Mitochondria Yadah. This is Sporos’ home Mitochondria and contains the parent Fara, or matured Farandolae, named Senex. This new environment was hard to process as communication in the Mitochondria fully revolves around kything and distance became irrelevant. In the Mitochondria, everyone realizes their second trial is to get Sporos to deepen, the Farandolae equivalent of maturing. The issue with this trial is that Sporos has been convinced by an Echthroi that he must not deepen and instead kill Senex to become a prince of the Echthroi. Due to the lack of change by Sporos and the realization that if they fail everyone would die, Mr. Jenkins’ willingness to sacrifice himself to the Echthroi grew. Mr. Jenkins chose to potentially sacrifice himself and his openness to the Echthroi caused them to become more focused on enveloping Mr. Jenkins and becoming one being. Calvin, Progo, Senex, and Meg were able to get through to Sporos through Mr. Jenkins’ sacrifice and Sporos realized it was his time to deepen. She confronted the Echthroi being and was overcome by an enlightened feeling and began naming the Echthroi. When her efforts were not enough, Progo decided it was his time to make himself useful. He fully gave his own life to Meg and empowered her enough to destroy the Echthroi will destroying his physical being. This act saved Charles and everyone within Yadah was instantly transported to his room. It was at this point they had all processed what Progo did, causing Meg especially to be saddened. She was relieved to have saved her brother though, but, after hugging him, she went outside to where she originally saw Progo. Calvin came out with her and they talked about what they had gone through. They both had a feeling that even though Progo’s physical being had been destroyed, he still was okay. As they headed back inside, the door was caught by a strong wind opposite the direction of the wind outside. They then knew he was okay and that he saved
