This assignment will discuss the role of the nurse in providing care in relation to the 6C’s of nursing practice which include care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment. (NHS England, 2012). These principles form the benchmark of the NHS culture of compassionate care and underpins everything it does. Danty, 81years lady has been suffering from severe constant Low back pain for 10years.Medical therapies were introduced to Mrs Danty such as Heat and cold therapy, which is believed to relieve most back pain caused by inflammation, exercises and strong pain killers which did not help. The specialist nurse, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, doctors, nurses form the multidisciplinary team that are involved in Mrs Danty care pathway to enable her get the best treatment. Multidisciplinary team helps to share knowledge and form different views from other disciplines in order to develop a good care, plan that will help provide good quality patient care and be able to reach a common goal (Ndoro 2014, p. 724).
Patients who are going to have surgery are advised to attend pre-operative assessment appointment weeks or days before their surgery is due, while at the appointment blood tests and general health assessment are done to see if the patient is fit for the surgery and it’s during this time that the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan and X-ray of the spine is done (NHS Choices, 2015).
